JESUS: THE TRUE ISRAEL OF GOD

Many verses in the old testament that points to Israel point to Jesus as the fulfiller of the prophecy. The word Israel means "a prince that has power with God."
Look at these verses in comparison:

Exodus 4:22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn
Matthew 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

1 Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

After crossing the red sea, Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness and failed.
Jesus after his baptism went in the desert 40 days and succeeded (Matthew 4:1-2).

In Psalms 80:8 God calls Israel a vine later called the fruitless vine.
In John 15:1 Jesus said he was the true vine.

In the old testament the name Israel was applied to one man and his victory over sin.
In the new Jesus is the Israel who over came all sin.

Isaiah 41:8 originally applied to Israel as Gods servant was quoted in the new testament as being fulfilled by Jesus (Matthew 12:16-19).

God called Israel his first born (Exodus 4:22) then Paul applied this same terminology to Jesus (Colossians 1:15).

God called Israel the seed of Abraham (Isaiah 41:8) but later Abrahams seed is termed as one seed in Jesus (Galatians 3:16).

Israel is called a holy nation (Exodus 19:6). The Church which is in Christ, remember we are one body, is said to be the royal priesthood quoting this same verse and applying it to the Church (1 Peter 2:9).

According to the new testament there are 2 Israels: one bound and one free. The Church is the one now free, applying it to Abrahams seed and applying Ishmaels linage, the child of bondage, to Israel of the flesh (Romans 9:3-6).

The finaly is this: David is told his son Solomon would build the house of God. Solomon fell into sin. He failed. Jesus said destroy this temple and I will raise it up in 3 days. Its all about Jesus. The word always points to Jesus and ends with Jesus. He is the fulfiller or the word of God.
